The Scoop / Palace Cinemas New Releases

Palace Cinemas are back and better than ever with a full range of new releases! So what is on the cinema screens now? Well, Palace Cinemas Byron Bay have provided their top 5 must watch films right now;

1. Shirley

“Newly-wed students, Fred and Rose, move to a small Vermont college town with the hope of starting a new life. They receive an offer of free room and board from a professor, if Rose agrees to spend time cleaning and looking after his wife – renowned horror author Shirley Jackson. Shirley detests their presence, which heightens tensions in the tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband. Fred and Rose’s love is tested when they find themselves fodder in the eccentric couple’s psycho-drama, which inspires Jackson’s next major masterpiece.”

2. A White, White Day

“This spellbinding and darkly humorous new drama about a stoic grandfather whose emotional reserves are pushed to their limits. Former police chief Ingimundur has struggled ever since he lost his wife to a tragic accident two years earlier. Busying himself with the task of renovating a homestead in the remote Icelandic wilderness, he finds solace in time spent with his spirited young granddaughter, Salka (Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir). But when Ingimundur begins to suspect a local man may have had an affair with his late wife, his detective instincts kick in, fuelling behaviour that becomes increasingly unpredictable…”

3. Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs

“Princes who have been turned into Dwarfs seek the red shoes of a lady in order to break the spell, although it will not be easy. A parody with a twist.”

4. The Personal History of David Copperfield

“A fresh and distinctive take on Charles Dickens’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece, The Personal History Of David Copperfield, set in the 1840’s, chronicles the life of its iconic title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it. From his unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer, David’s journey is by turns hilarious and tragic, but always full of life, colour and humanity.”

5. Romantic Road

“One English couple. One battered English car. 5000 miles through the heart of India. Meet Rupert and Jan Grey, a free-spirited and eccentric upper-class English couple in their sixties, married for 35 years and on the verge of retirement. At a time when most couples are preparing for a simple life, this intrepid couple ignore everyone’s advice and embark on a remarkable journey – to drive Rupert’s father’s 1936 Rolls Royce across India on their way to a photography festival in Dhaka, Bangladesh.”
